With the recent announcement that the Hillsboro School District, with the support of the Grand Ronde Tribe, has named their newest elementary school Atfalati Ridge (the native People of the Tualatin Valley) we want to make sure everyone knows how to say their name! The tribe is unknown to most modern-day citizens of the Tualatin Valley yet their time here existed for tens of thousands of years until the late 1800's and 1900's. Here is a highly respected tribal linguist and teacher of Chinook Wawa, PhD Henry Zenk, properly saying the name and the various versions of the name. Henry Zenk has contributed to several books and manuscripts and has a listing at Oregon State University- all credit is given to Mr Zenk for this Video and its contents were authored by him.
