We're often told that transistors should not be run in parallel, but in this video I explain how it can be done safely and successfully.
This video is one in the series of electronic circuit design hints and tips from ian Poole's Electronics Notebook.
The reason why they should't be run in parallel is because one will turn on slightly before the second and it it'll take all the current and this could cause it to fail. This happens because it's very difficult to match the performance of all the transistors in manufacture. They always have a wide tolerance.
To overcome the issue, simply place a resistor in the emitter of each transistor (the same value for each) and this will provide negative feedback to ensure they both carry the same current.
