***Things To Remember***
- To enable SuperShield after installing PC Matic, open PC Matic, click "not protected," then click "enable" to install Super Shield
- SuperShield is PC Matic's real-time scanning engine that is always running. SuperShield protects your computer against threats like ransomware, viruses and other malware
- You need an active internet connection to run PC Matic and SuperShield. We recommend that you have at least 5 MBs download and 1 MBs upload speed
- PC Matic does not open by itself. To start a scan, you have to initiate it by clicking on the PC Matic icon or setting up a scheduled scan for it to happen automatically
- Choose your scan options by opening PC Matic, then click the “options” button
- To change any of the options, click the toggle button or select a different option in the dropdown menu
- Autofix: When autofix is turned off, you can view the scan results page and view all of the suggested fixes before implementing them. You can even exclude some of the suggested fixes if you choose
- Auto reboot: When auto-reboot is turned on, the computer will automatically restart after a scan if a restart is necessary. Typically when something is installed or deleted, a reboot is required to finalize and apply any changes
- Drives to scan: This shows all drives attached to the computer, where you can select which hard drives get scanned and defragged. Note** SSDs or solid-state drives can not be defragged. "Defragging," short for de-fragmenting, is a process run on most hard drives to help make accessing the files on that disk faster. Traditionally, it's something you need to do periodically as files on the disk become more and more fragmented over time
- Disk optimization: this is where you can set the disk optimization component to full, partial or skip. The major difference between a partial defrag and full DEFRAG is that a full defrag can take hours and a partial defrag takes much less time to complete. This is dependent on how much optimization is needed and how much space is on the hard drive
- Malware scan: set your malware scan option to full, partial, selective or skip. A quick scan searches common areas that malware is known to hide and is sufficient in most cases to clean the computer. A full scan scans every single file on the computer and can take hours to complete. A selective scan is where you can select to have PC Matic scan removable devices such as thumb drives or additional hard drives that are attached to your computer
