To restore your Android home screen to its original layout, you need to reset the launcher by clearing its data or switching back to the default system launcher. This process does not delete your apps or personal data.
Step 1 — Identify Your Android Launcher
Every Android phone uses a launcher that controls the layout of the home screen, app drawer, icons, and widgets. To find your default launcher:
Open Settings on your phone.
Go to Apps (or Apps & notifications).
Tap Default apps Home app.
The selected launcher is your current default. On Samsung phones, it may appear as One UI Home; on Google Pixel phones, it will usually be Pixel Launcher
Step 2 — Reset the Home Screen by Clearing Launcher Data
Open Settings Apps find your launcher (e.g., One UI Home, Pixel Launcher).
Tap Storage & cache (or Storage).
Select Clear data or Clear storage and confirm.
This action resets all customizations, removing additional app shortcuts, folders, widgets, and home screen pages. It restores the layout to how it appeared when the phone was first set up, while keeping all installed apps intact
Step 3 — Switch Back to the Default Launcher (if Needed)
If a third-party launcher was installed and set as default:
Open Settings Apps Default apps Home app.
Select your built-in launcher (such as Pixel Launcher or One UI Home).
Returning to the system launcher restores the familiar default home screen layout
Step 4 — Restore Missing Apps and Widgets
After the reset:
Any missing app icons can be added back by long-pressing on the home screen and selecting Widgets or Apps.
Recreate folders and reposition frequently used apps as needed.
If you have previously used a launcher with a backup function (like Nova Launcher), you can restore your layout from the backup instead of manually reconfiguring
