You can reset your Android phone without losing data by first creating a backup to Google Drive or using dedicated backup software, performing the factory reset, and then restoring your data from the backup.
Step 1 — Back Up Your Data
Before performing any reset, ensure all important information is safely backed up to avoid data loss. You can back up:
Contacts, messages, and system settings using Google Backup: Go to Settings Google Backup, then toggle Back up to Google Drive and tap Back up now
Photos and videos using Google Photos or another cloud service.
App data for apps that sync via cloud; check individual apps for backups if needed.
Optionally, use software like Dr.Fone Basic to create a comprehensive local backup on your computer, covering contacts, media, messages, and apps
Step 2 — Perform the Reset
There are two main reset types:
Soft Reset: Restarts the phone, fixes minor issues, and does not erase data. Simply hold the power button, turn off the device, and turn it back on
Factory Reset (Hard Reset): Restores the phone to its original settings. To do this safely:
Open Settings System (or General Management) Reset options.
Select Erase all data (factory reset) or Reset phone.
Confirm your PIN, pattern, or password to proceed
Some devices also allow reset via Recovery Mode or remotely using Android Device Manager, useful if the phone is unresponsive or lost
