The XL sportster kickstand is created in what I like to call a closed system setup. This basically means that every piece of this mechanism is dependent on the all of the other pieces involved, otherwise the entire thing is useless. So if ANY part from this kickstand becomes loose, takes a hit from gravel on the road, or just has enough regular wear and tear on it, you might need to put bricks under your bike in an alleyway behind your apartment complex until you get a new kickstand

Below are links to where you can buy a replacement kickstand. I would put a link to Harley Davidson's actual website, but their parts are very over priced ($90 not including the spring or plug), and I had a very bad experience with the HD customer service when I tried to buy the kickstand through them. You can also usually find them on ebay for $50 or less. Please share this to other people who are having kickstand issues. Thanks for reading!
