STIHL GB | How To Reload The Line On An AutoCut C 5-2 Mowing Head | STIHL GB @STIHLGB | Uploaded November 2020 | Updated October 2024, 4 minutes ago.
Reloading the line in an AutoCut C 5-2 head is quick and easy to do. Here, in this video, we’ll walk you through the process step-by-step.

Step by step guide:

🔶 The first step is to make sure that you have removed the battery or disconnected the power to ensure that there is no risk of the machine starting whilst you are working on it.

🔶 The last pieces of mowing line may have ejected themselves from the mowing head by themselves. If they haven’t, you will need to remove the old pieces of the line before you can proceed.

🔶 Align the arrows on the mowing head as shown in the video and attempt to pull the line out. If it can’t be pulled out then you will need to remove the head from the machine.

🔶 To remove the head, grip the outer part to hold it in place, then undo the centre nut. You should be able to do it by hand, but if not, you can use a wide-bladed screwdriver to loosen it. Take out the centre section and remove the old line.

🔶 Once you have removed the old line, you will need to reassemble it ready to load with the new line. To reassemble the mowing head, align the four inner recesses with the four larger outer ones. Rotate the ring until you feel it click into place and you can see that the inner and outer recesses are now aligned.

🔶 Hold it all in place and slide the head onto the machine so that this hexagonal recess slots over the nut. Take the centre cap, put it back on, press down and screw it up tightly.

🔶 The AutoCut C 5-2 head takes 4 metres of our green 2mm mowing line. To reload the line, you first need to make sure that the arrows on the mowing head are aligned. Twist the ring, as shown in the video, to make sure that the outer arrows are lined up with the inner arrows.

🔶 Once they are aligned, take one end of the line and push it into the eyelet. You will feel it slide in and then meet a bit of resistance. Repeat this for the other end of the line.

🔶 Next, you need to wind it up so that the line is drawn into the head. Once it is almost wound up, snip the line in the middle. You’ll need approximately 10cm of line each side, so if you have more than that, you can just trim the ends.
