This tutorial will show you how to randomize velocity in FL Studio / how to humanize your melodies in fl studio. Randomizing velocity is a great way to make your melodies sound more human-like. We call this humanization. Velocity indicates how hard a key on the piano is struck. The harder it is struck, the more aggressive and powerful the sound will be. A real human will never hit all the notes with the exact same velocity. Instead it will be more random and varry throughout the track. This randomness in note velocity and timing is what creates emotion in a composition.
When you plot in notes in the fl studio piano roll, they will always be on-grid and the velocities will always remain the same. This can make it sound very digital and lifeless. If you want to create realistic melodies in FL Studio then It's better to randomize velocity so that you get a more lively and realistic melody. It can also be used when playing chords.
When a real human plays an instrument, the velocity will always be slightly random, some notes will be hit harder and some softer. The timing will also vary.
