Unlike many other vehicles, your Mercedes-Benz GLE W167 will need at least some power connected to the battery to put the shifter to Neutral. You will need to put the shifter up or down before the point of resistance to avoid shifting to Drive or Reverse and keep the shifter there for 5 seconds. This will engage Neutral.
There is no safety neutral switch, so if the battery is completely dead and there is no possibility to jump it with a battery booster or some other 12V battery, the vehicle will eventually need to be transported using a special type of the tow truck with a crane. Other than that, these vehicles can’t go to Neutral easily.
