You’ve probably heard iconic Italian names like Gucci, Versace, and Leonardo da Vinci pronounced wrong — maybe even by yourself.
And the mistake almost always comes down to two letters: CI and CE.

In Italian, the letter C makes a “ch” sound when it comes before I or E — which is why it’s Goo-chee, Ver-SAH-cheh, and Vin-CHEE.

But be careful — this rule applies only to Italian.
Because if you start using it in English, you’ll end up calling your friend Cindy… “Cheen-dee.”
