Ultimate Handyman | How to prevent a surface water drain from blocking @ultimatehandyman | Uploaded September 2020 | Updated October 2024, 6 days ago.
Surface water drains collect rain water and channel this to either the sewer or a soakaway/stream. The problem is that the grid on top of the drain hopper has large holes, which can allow debris to go into the hopper and eventually block the drain. In this video I cut a piece of stainless steel filter mesh and place that underneath the drain cover, as it is much easier cleaning this, rather than unblocking the drain!

I'm not sure how this will hold up in the winter months, as it might freeze. If it does I will remove it and replace it in the summer time. This has to be easier than unblocking drains!
