The problem
The OEM door locking mechanism is easily bypassed by criminals.
It is very common for criminials to attempt break-ins on these vans by drilling a hole through the side door to access the internal mechanisms of the lock and open the door, this being able to take whatever is stored in the back of the van. If your van has been broken into you would be required to replace the whole door, which can often prove expensive and time consuming, especially if you need to respray the new door.
A common deterrent against criminals would be an alarm system, however the alarm will only be triggered once the criminals are already inside of the van. Having a visible guard on show will send a message to any prospecting criminals.
