RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first player to either slay 3 monsters or assemble a full party of 6 different classes. Give each player a reference card. Each player picks a parter leader card and place it in front of you, any unused are returned to the box. Shuffle the main deck and deal 5 cards to each player. Players look at their own cards but keep them hidden from others. Place the remaining deck facedown in the middle of the table. To the side of it is a discard pile. Shuffle the monster cards and flip over 3 in the middle, then place the remaining cards facedown next to it.
Whoever picked their party leader card last goes first, then play proceeds clockwise. On your turn you get 3 action points to spend. The following cost 1 action point: Draw a card from the main deck. Play a hero, item, or magic card from your hand. If you play a hero, you place it faceup in front of you and can roll to use its effect immediately for free. There is no limit to the number of heroes you can have in your party. You can also pay one action to roll two dice to try and activate a hero’s effect. Party leaders are not considered heroes. If the combined value of the roll is equal to or greater than the indicated number then you succeed, You are only allowed to try and activate each hero’s effect once per turn. If you fail, you cannot try again.
For the cost of 2 actions, you can attack a monster. For three actions you can discard your entire hand, even if you have zero cards, and draw 5 new cards. If a card’s effect tells you to perform an action immediately, that means it is free and you do not have to spend an additional action point. Your turn ends when you run out of actions or choose not to perform any other actions. All unused actions at the end of your turn are wasted.
Each hero and party leader card has a class. The class symbols are: Fighter, Guardian, Ranger, Thief, Wizard, Bard. There is also the “any hero” icon which applies to any class.
When you play a card, follow its instructions. Item cards equip to a hero card, not party leaders, by sliding underneath them so only their text is visible. Cursed item cards are equipped to other player heroes. You cannot equip items or cursed items to party leaders. Only 1 item may be equipped to a hero at a time and you cannot swap them out. Whatever happens to your hero also happens to the item equipped to it.
Magic cards are discarded after their effect is resolved. Modifier and challenge cards do not require an action to play and can be played anytime the card indicates, including on another player’s turn. Discard the modifier or challenge card after resolving its effect. When picking to affect another player’s roll, you can wait until after they have chosen their target. There is no limit to the number of modifier cards that can be played on the same roll.
When you challenge another player, each of you must roll two dice. If your roll is equal to or higher, then the card that other player was about to play is discarded without effect and that player is not reimbursed for the action. When modifying a challenge roll, you can wait until after both players have rolled. Each card can only be challenged once, even by a different player.
Party leader skills are triggered every time their condition is met. If you forget to apply the effect, you cannot go back and apply it later. Party leaders cannot be sacrificed, destroyed, stolen, or returned to your hand. No player may use the Shadow Claw party leader in two player games. Cards that are sacrificed or destroyed are sent to the discard pile. Steal means to move a card from another player’s party to your party. Party refers to the area in front of you where you place hero’s and item cards.
If you attack a monster, then you can only attack one of the faceup ones. In order to attack, in addition to spending 2 action points, you must meet the hero party size and/or class criteria requirement. Your party leader can count towards class requirement but it does not contribute to the any hero icon. Each requirement icon must be met by a different hero.
If you meet the criteria you can roll. Roll two dice and if the sum is greater than the green plus number, you win and perform the effect next to it...
