When starting in locksport or learning Lockpick and how to pick locks, there is tons of information out there with different things that you “need to know”. Some of that information is good and valuable; some of it is not. For me, binding order is high on the list of things that don’t matter.
Let’s take a look at what binding order is, along with why key bitting is irrelevant, and why these things shouldn’t matter when it comes to learning how to pick locks. We will discuss what makes them non-factors in our picking, what benefits they could offer as we develop our skills and abilities, as well as when they might be useful or a hinderance. Hopefully, this will shed some light on these topics and help clear up any confusion you may have regarding where your focus should be as you learn.
