Extra information that was cut from the video:

The weapon I’m using is a +25 Miserichorde. I’d say this weapon is an absolute requirement for this fight. It has a bleed infusion with the Ash of War being Bloodhound Step. This is possible by grabbing the Black Whetblade from Nokron, which allows bleed infusions to be applied to Ashes of War.

Physik is the Dexterity Knot with Opaline Hardtear. The Hardtear does absolutely nothing in this fight but I’d very much recommend the Bubbletear for RL1.

On infusions, bleed was the one that fitted my build the most and the natural choice. The other great option is frost. The benefit of frost is it gives you extra standard damage on subsequent attacks after procs, and you can also reset your procs by attacking her with a fire weapon. The closest I came to “bullying” Malenia over the course of this video, was when I used a frost Miserichorde to get frost procs, then switched to Rivers of Blood and used Corpse Piler on her after ripostes, this gave me massive bleed damage (Rivers of Blood/Corpse Piler is really effective against Malenia) and also reset her frost procs with fire damage, so I could frost her on each ripostes. This triple damage solution was super OP. But ultimately, while switching between Miserichorde and RoB in my right hand, and switching the left hand for Waterfowl, I ended up getting in a terrible mess and always having the wrong weapon equipped at the wrong moment. If In the future I find a way of dodging Waterfowl without switching the left hand, this will be my go-to solution.

On Frost Pots. They’re undoubtedly the easiest method on paper. The easiest way of dodging waterfowl is not having waterfowl in the fight. HOWEVER, if you’re getting hit by her at all in phase 1, you’re gonna want your crimson tears equipped to heal. You also need to throw the pot quite early in the waterfowl start up animation. These two things combined mean that, on seeing waterfowl start, switching from crimson tears to frost pot and throwing it before the attack starts actually requires a faster reaction than all the other methods I’ve outlined, apart from maybe the 360 sprint. Meaning that if you’re capable of the frost pot method, you’re almost certainly capable of the Bloodhound or Turtle Shield methods that have no item requirements. I tried to capture my own footage of the frost pot strat but after a few attempts, I hadn’t got it once, and found restocking my pots with item farming and crafting to be a little tedious, hence why Ongbal’s footage is here and not mine.

Since their original RL1 methods. Both LobosJr and Distortion2 have found Roll-Only methods for dodging Malenia. Lobos has got his so consistent that I recently watched him do it consistently whilst playing the game on 200% speed. And Distortion has got his down to the point where he has time to hit her with a colossal weapon in the middle of Waterfowl, whilst still dodging every attack. If I ever figure out either of these methods, I will break them down in future vids.

I really hope that this video might help some of you achieve the same sense of accomplishment that soloing Malenia gave me. If it does, please do let me know, and free feel to @ me if you post your footage of it anywhere. Watching your victories against tough bosses, is so freaking cool and really inspires me to keep making these tutorials.
