I wanted a monochromatic look so I painted right over the handles. Because French Provincial hardware has a lot of details, I pounced the brush-up and down to get full coverage on these handles. A cheap brush may not hold up during this technique so be sure to use a quality paint brush when painting hardware like this. Once the paint is pounced in all the details, then I take the brush and smooth out the hardware paint and the area around the handle.
