Jonas Tyroller | How to Paint an Awesome Image as An Unskilled Game Develper! @JonasTyroller | Uploaded August 2018 | Updated October 2024, 28 seconds ago.
Digital painting is easy and you can do this as well if you know how.
This is a commented time lapse of an artwork I created in about five hours. I'm not a super skilled artist, so I think most beginners should be able to paint concept art like this as well. You'll just have to put in a bit more time and patience, but other than that it's easy.
In this video I use Photoshop to paint the concept for a fantasy landscape.
You just start with a soft brush, some abstract shapes and focus purely on the gray-scale values. Every now and then you start painting on a new layer and when you toggle that layer on and off you can see whether you improved the painting or not. If not you remove the layer. This way your painting can only get better and better over time.
Flip and rotate the image often to get a new perspective on things and only add color very late into the process. The best way to do this in Photoshop is using gradients, because they give you the most control.
I hope there are quite a lot of useful design tips and tricks that motivate you to try this out yourself. Have fun. :)
