Cheat Sheet
Quickly scan the room and remove any large bulky items that won't be staying in the space. Consider temporarily removing large items that will be returning if it makes it easier to work in the space while you're organizing.
Quickly go through items to separate your belongings into the following categories:
• Keep- items that will stay in the room
• Relocate- items you're keeping, but they won't remain in the room. Prioritize removing these things so your project is less overwhelming.
• Donate- Consider donating to a local thrift store since Goodwill receives so many donations, some end up in the trash
• Sell- Remove these items from the space, at least temporarily
• Recycle- even torn or ugly clothing can be recycled by dropping them in a Planet Aid bin
• Trash
• Unsure- Don't linger in thought for too long. Revisit these items later
Leave yourself some extra room so you can accumulate more things without it becoming too cluttered.
Find a home for everything so you can more easily keep the space clean. Tidy up as you work and/or at the end of the day. It's easier to maintain a space vs cleaning a huge mess for hours every couple of weeks.
Use a searchable note app on your phone to keep track of things you're storing in boxes, dressers, closets, etc so you can quickly locate them. This saves time and energy and may also spare you from buying things you already own. I use Samsung Notes. I even attach a photo to the notes at times.

Heat gun: I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture, and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. It gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.
