In this video I discuss polynomial interpolation, the Vandermonde algorithm, error estimates at extrapolated points, and why we don't want to trust approximation methods too far. The challenger explosion is an example where scientists and engineers trusted a linear interpolation too much and underestimated the brittleness of the o-rings, which led to the first disaster of the space shuttle program.
