This juicy sliceable vegan meat is perfect for deli-style sandwiches or wherever you want a toothsome hit of savory, plant-based meatiness. This vegan meat recipe is super easy. All you do is mix the ingredients, knead a few times, and steam it. Because of the high moisture ratio, this seitan turns out tender and juicy. Steaming seitan rather than baking or simmering is also a fool-proof method that results in perfectly cooked gluten every time.

Unfortunately, this recipe is not gluten-free, nor can it be made gluten-free.

If this looks familiar, that's because it was originally named my "Simple Savory Seitan for Sandwiches." It's been a staple in my kitchen for nearly a decade! And it's still one of the very best.
