**Turns out this makes potassium carbonate, to make bicarbonate you need to pressurize the CO2 like carbonating a soda.**
Recipie:
190g Potassium hydroxide KOH (or 40g sodium hydroxide NaOH)
200mL distilled water
CO2 bubbles (from tank or you can make with yeast and sugar)
bubble for a couple hours
pour off liquid on the top and wash the mush at the bottom (your potassium bicarbonate) with high proof ethanol several times to remove the KOH. Save the washings.
Pour off the excess ethanol, transfer the goo to a plate and set in front of a fan to dry into a crystalline powder.
The initial water you pour off the top save so you can use that as your liquid next time to add more potassium hydroxide and bubble CO2 into. The ethanol you can distill to recollect pure ethanol. Very efficient, no waste method!
