Spooky Skeleton Caramel Apples

1.First prepare apples by washing and removing stems and making sure apples are thoroughly dry.

2. Next put the sticks into the apples making sure they are at least halfway or almost to the bottom of your apple.

3. Then prepare your caramel. I used the stove top method for boiling caramel out of a can of sweetened condensed milk for 3 hours and 15 minutes. Make sure the can is always covered with water or it could possibly explode. (Not good) When caramel is done remove from the pot with a pair of tongs (can will be very very hot!) place on the counter for about 10 minutes then move into the refrigerator for at least another 2 hours to cool completely. I let my cans cool overnight.

*If the boiling method is not for you, you can always purchased pre packaged caramels and melt in the microwave stirring every 30 seconds to make sure you don't overheat.

4. Next, spoon the caramel into a bowl and place in the microwave for 1 minute or longer if needed, stirring every 30 seconds to be sure your not overheating. When caramel is ready it will be a thin consistency.

5. Prepare white chocolate by pouring in a bowl and melting in the microwave for about 1 minute stirring every 30 seconds.

6. Scoop or pour white chocolate into a piping bag fitted with a round circular tip (any size should work although don't go too big!)

7. Dip apples in caramel and place on silpat mat or wax paper placed on a cookie sheet to prevent a giant mess.

8. Apples should go in the refrigerator to cool and harden. They apples should be done when the caramel no longer sticks to your finger when touched.

9. Pipe the face of your skeleton in white chocolate. 2 round eyes and a triangle nose. Then fill in the rest of the space about halfway down and let the caramel drip and drizzle down. I like to smooth out and blend the chocolate together using the end of the piping bag, I do this so I don't have any "lines" in the chocolate.

10. Last place the apples on a platter and allow them to cool or to speed up drying time place them in the refrigerator.

Enjoy! Happy Halloween!
