Louise Jannetta | How to make beautiful marks in a paper collage abstract painting @LouiseJannetta | Uploaded October 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
I use textures and mark-making to create interest, depth and to stimulate tactile references. The hope is to induce sensorial memories that can extend the experiential value of the image. No longer a flat plane, the relief allows light to directly influence the image, shadows are cast as the ambient light alters, enhancing line and tonality. The painting appears to have a life of its own.
Curiosity is aroused by this flicker of life but also by the unusual paint application that this technique demands. Paint is captured, caught, rubbed, coaxed and sprinkled across the image and the vibrations enhance the interaction of colour, paint, light and texture.
Watercolour paper 300 to 600 gsm
Acrylics and acrylic flow medium
Mixed papers for collage
Acrylic varnish to finish
Cellulose PH neutral glue
