Crafts With Ellen | How to make an 8-bit pixel quilt top, the easy way | Sewing tutorial @CraftsWithEllen | Uploaded 6 years ago | Updated 1 hour ago
While quilts are great, I struggle with the precision that is required to line up all those seams nicely. So when I heard of a technique that should make that a lot easier, I was excited to give it a try. For this technique you iron your fabric onto a big piece of fusible interfacing first. Then you fold over one line at a time and sew the seam. This way the whole seam gets made at once and everything will line up automatically. It’s basically quilting for dummies and I love it.

I gave the technique a try with this Link pixel quilt and am very happy with the results. Not all the corners are perfect, but they’re pretty close. And the result is definitely better than what I could have achieved with the normal quilting approach.

What you’ll need:
- Fusible interfacing that is big enough for your entire quilt plus seam allowance on all the squares
- Cotton fabric in all the required colors
- Cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter
- Special pen that disappears when wet
- Sheet of oven paper
- Tailors chalk
- Iron
- Sewing machine
- Thread

If you make one of your own, I'd love to see it! Send me a picture on Instagram @craftswithellen.
