In this video, I'll be showing you how to make your own solar powered Mendocino motor. A Mendocino motor is one of the most simple forms of brushless motor, whereby solar panels mounted onto the rotor generate current through the windings, which in turn produce torque on the rotor. The solar panels are connected in opposite polarities, such that the reversing of current in each winding is achieved automatically when a panel is rotated from the light side to the dark side of the rotor. You can also make this type of motor with low friction ball bearings.
