I make a DIY rocket stove into a bio-char reactor. The wood fired rocket stove heat a metal-bucket and mineral wool oven to cook the volatile gases out of the bio-mass (wood chips in this case). The gases are ported into the riser (chimney) of the rocket stove and are re-torted (burned) as fuel. I'll use the bio-char as a soil-building amendment in my garden, which will promote the colonization of microbes in the soil, greatly enhancing its fertility.
