In this video we're crafting a vertical diorama using free 3D models found online, along with various techniques like scratch building and resin printing.
To start, a sturdy wooden frame serves as the base for the XPS foam rock structure. Sculptamold helps soften the edges where a small creek will flow through the scene. Gorilla glue, water-activated, binds the foam pieces together before sculpting and texturing the rocks for a natural look.
With a base coat and layers of warm earthy colors, the rocks come to life, followed by a wash and fine turf for added realism. We'll mix organic and straight shapes to create a balance between natural and man made elements.
The cottage atop the rocky mountain emerges, featuring a 3D printed door and detailed sash window. XPS foam rocks, rounded and glued in place, receive a grout mix and paint treatment. Aged timber floorboards and various details like firewood and a jib crane add depth to the scene.
Resin pouring brings the creek to life, with careful color selection to achieve a transparent yet tinted effect. After three days of curing, the model is complete.
