To get started, you'll want to go to the link above to download your Minecraft server files. This will take you to our site where you can get any server version you want. Click the download button next to the version you want and the .jar file will begin downloading.
Then, create a “Minecraft Server” folder on your desktop and move the server.jar to it. Then, double-click the .jar file. You should now have a few files and folders. If not, you need to get Java 25 and run the Jarfix, both of which are linked above.
Open the eula.txt file and set EULA=false to EULA=true and save the file. Double-click your server.jar again and your Minecraft server will start.
You can now join the server with the IP address “localhost’. This is a great way to test the server, make sure things aren't lagging, etc. You can also customize your server.properties file, op yourself in the console, change game rules, etc.
However, you probably want to get your friends on your server. To do this, you will need to forward the port 25565 for both TCP and UDP on your router. Our complete port forwarding guide is listed above. Once that’s complete, your friends can join your server with your public IP.
