When joining a Synology NAS to a domain, you gain the ability to assign permissions to shared folder to active directory users and groups. this in more in line for business environments where an active directory domain is at the center of the organization.
after seeing how to join Synology NAS to domain, in my experience, i recommend performing a reboot of the NAS, even though you will not be asked to. i tend to always reboot devices after domain joining them.
If you are running an active directory domain in your environment, it is highly recommended that you also join your Synology NAS to your domain in order to get more consistency in permissions.
