If you want to install Linux Mint without a bootloader, you will face a problem that there is not option not to install the Linux Mint bootloader. This video shows you how to overcome this obstacle and how to install Linux Mint without a bootloader.

You simply need to start the installer from a terminal: ubiquity -b
This will open start the installer without the option to install the bootloader.

Using 'ubiquity -b' also installs Ubunutu without a bootloader. I have also tested in on KDE Neon. So, this approach should work for all Ubunutu derivatives.
