You can increase virtual memory (paging file) in Windows 11 by adjusting the system-managed page file settings or manually allocating more virtual memory, which uses disk space to supplement RAM.
Step 1 — Open System Settings
Press Windows + I to open Settings.
Navigate to System About.
Scroll down and click Advanced system settings under Related links.
Step 2 — Access Virtual Memory Settings
In the System Properties window, switch to the Advanced tab.
Under Performance, click Settings.
In the Performance Options window, go to the Advanced tab.
Under Virtual memory, click Change.
Step 3 — Adjust Paging File Size
Uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
Select the drive where Windows is installed (usually C:).
Choose Custom size:
Initial size (MB): Enter a value equal to 1.5 times your RAM. For example, if you have 8 GB RAM, set it to 12288 MB.
Maximum size (MB): Enter a value 3 times your RAM (e.g., 24576 MB for 8 GB RAM) to allow more headroom
Click Set, then click OK.
Step 4 — Restart the Computer
For the changes to take effect, restart your PC. This ensures that Windows starts using the newly allocated virtual memory.
