In this guitar lesson you learn how to improvise and to find nice tensions to create sweet contrasts over the chords you play a solo over. I also talk about how I approach improv on the guitar.

Instead of just playing a scale, I am always aware of the chord tones and usually try to work from the actual chord shapes to create my solos. Because I know the functions of the notes in the chord shapes it is then easier for me to find the "colour tones" to create interesting tensions. In this lesson I go over a couple of examples so you can see and hear for yourself how I create colours and contrasts. It's these tensions and their resolutions that are some of the important ingredients of a good guitar solo.
