When kids experience big emotions, our instinct might be to distract them or push them past their discomfort, but what if we simply held space for their feelings instead? 💛
Here are three ways to support kids through their emotions:
Heighten their awareness - Be curious about their feelings instead of labeling them.
Help them put emotions into words - Encourage them to share, then reflect back with a possible name for what they’re feeling.
Explore feelings together - Let them know it’s OK to feel how they feel, and you’ll be there to help them make sense of it.
Helping kids understand their emotions builds empathy, love, and resilience. 💕 Try it out and let us know how it goes!Â
