"Experiment 271 Dissolve 10 g of lead acetate sugar of lead in 250 cu em of Hs0 and add a few drops of C2H402 In this solution suspend a strip of Zn The Zn and Pb will change places leaving a solution of zinc acetate and a metallic lead tree The tree will be more beautiful if the ends of the Zn be slit into branches before immersion The weights of the dissolved Zn and the precipitated Pb will be in the ratio of their atomic weights."

“A Fascinating Demonstration can be performed by immersing a strip of zinc in a solution of lead acetate. Fasten the strip to the cover of a half-pint jar, and then polish the strip with sandpaper or steel wool to remove surface film. Fill the jar with a solution of 30 grams of lead acetate in hot water, and screw on the top. If it is left overnight, next morning you will find in the jar a beautiful “lead tree” composed of a voluminous cluster of crystals of metallic lead. part of the zinc dissolves, replacing the lead in the lead acetate forming zinc acetate."
