Or more simply through steam's overlay settings. If you are having hard time for the FPS overlay to show in OBS, make sure your game capture properties has checked "Capture third-party overlays"

Livesplit for timing - livesplit.org
Livesplit is very customisable timer, and i barely touched the surface in this video. Good to have Global hotkeys set on, and have binds for starting splits, skipping a split and resetting splits.
