This two-part method is the best way I know to get colorful, noise-free stars that are radiant yet do not overwhelm a DSO image. The development portion reliably produces a colorful, noise-free star plate, and the composite portion preserves the stars' luster yet keeps them in balance with the DSO when they are added back to the image.
