🧴🫧🚿 A deep-dive into How to Formulate and Mix Sulphate-Free Shampoos

In advance of changing regulations, many shampoo manufacturers are adapting and changing formulations to sulphate-free. In this video, Clarissa from @HolifermYT talks us through the formulation for 'The Shampoo', a pearlescent, Ultra-mild, 100% natural shampoo she manufactures using a Silverson High Shear mixer in 3 simple steps:

1: Hydrate the gum (CMC) with the Humectant (Glycerin) and Water (making up 60% of the formulation), using the Silverson mixer to ensure the gum is fully hydrated.

2. Add the Surfactants - Decyl Glucoside, GLT and Holisurf LF, incorporating them with the Silverson mixer.

3. Add a Natural Preservative (Phenthyl Alcohol) and the Aesthetic components (Mica), and mix for the final time with the Silverson mixer on a slow speed to minimise air entrapment and incorporate the fine clay powder into the viscous mix.

The Result: A Sulphate-free, well incorporated Shampoo with the rheology you'd expect from a 'traditional' shampoo. This formulation is sustainable and can be used by the whole family, including pets!

It may also contain other ingredients such as grains, herbs or proteins.
