the method that I used to get rid of my blushed lacquer finish as well as showing you the final reveal of my piece! If you remember, a few weeks ago I worked on an authentic Drexel Dresser and I used lacquer for the first time and it blushed, meaning it turned white! Since then, I’ve learned that there are a few things that cause this. High humidity in the air, putting it on a surface that has not completely dried, or using Lacquer thinner that is made specifically for clean up and not for actually thinning out lacquer. Given my circumstances, I am assuming that it was the latter.
There are a few ways to solve this. My method today will so how to use a heat gun. But you can also use a lacquer retardant by spraying it on, rubbing it with a fine steal wool sponge, and sanding it off and spraying the lacquer on again with lacquer retardant mixed in.
