To reset any Canon back to factory settings, follow these steps:
Turn the camera ON
Press the MENU button
Use the left/right buttons to go to the Setup tab (the wrench icon 🔧)
Scroll down until you find Reset All
Press the FUNC./SET button
Select OK
Press FUNC./SET again to confirm

The camera will reset settings such as:

Shooting modes
Flash settings
Display settings
Date/time settings may need to be re-entered
Custom preferences
If the camera is frozen or acting strange:

Try a power reset:

Turn the camera off
Remove the battery
Remove the memory card
Wait about 1–5 minutes
Reinsert the battery (leave the card out first)
Turn it back on
If you bought it used at a yard sale:

I would also check:

Menu → Setup → Format to erase the old SD card (if included)
Check the lens extends and retracts smoothly
Test the zoom
Record a short video and play it back
Check for blurry spots (possible dust/fungus inside lens)

One thing to note: because the SX410 IS is older, if it has the original battery, a weak battery can cause weird behavior like shutting off, freezing, or the lens not retracting fully. A new battery is often the first fix for these cameras. #canoncamera
