Hello! In this video I will show you how to export Lightroom presets for non RAW files to Capture One! 3D LUT Creator will help me with this!
I have a series of JPEG photos as an example to showcase my three presets Travel, Drama and Teal Orange. Let's see how these presets work. I will need a Hald file to transfer color processing from Lightroom to 3D LUT Creator. Hald file is a graphical representation of a LUT. I got Hald with size 64 loaded into Lightroom, you can download it from 3dlutcreator.com
I have already made a video on creating LUTs from presets. I'll tell you about the main points that you should pay attention to. To begin with, you should understand that not all settings of a Lightroom preset can be written to LUT. You cannot record to LUT tools based on tonal mapping: these are Highlights and Shadows Sliders. Whites and Blacks sliders also use tonal mapping at their extreme positions. Also, you cannot write to the LUT all those settings that add new pixels or change their position in the photo: these are Texture, Clarity and Dehaze sliders, a tab with the sharpness and noise reduction settings, Lens corrections, Transform, as well as Effects tab, which includes vignetting and grain. Crop tool, for obvious reasons, cannot be used either. Everything else can be written to the LUT! Of course, the result can be different from what you have in Lightroom, but on the other hand, Capture One has everything that I turned off for LUT, which means that the difference can be reduced to zero. For example, I will show you how the photo will look if you disable the part of the preset that will not be written to the LUT. In this case, nothing particularly terrible happened.
Let’s start with the first preset. I will turn off settings which will not be written to LUT. I’m going to create two virtual copies of my Hald file and apply the rest of the presets to them, disabling unnecessary settings. Notice how much the last preset twists the sliders, but don’t worry, I will show you how to fix this in Capture One.
I’m going to export these three files. How to do it correctly? First, you need to specify the Tiff file format, sRGB color space, 16 bit depth with no compression. Second, check if you are using resizing or sharpening. These settings should be disabled.
I’m going to make 3 profiles for Capture One based on these HALD files in 3D LUT Creator. How to do it? I’m going to the Mask tab and then loading the first exported Hald in External LUT section. Then I’m going to File menu and choosing Export 3DLUT. I’m going to save the profile to the folder with the Capture One user profiles. It is better to mention in the file name that profile will be for JPEGs. Next, I need to choose basic profile. For JPEGs, I will choose No color correction profile, which is located here. Done! Now I’m going to do the same with two remaining files. HALD's from the folder can be loaded using arrows on the panel.
So, my profiles are saved, it remains to launch Capture One and check them! I will choose a profile for this photo. Let’s compare now with Lightroom. In Capture One, I will dim the highlights a little and make the shadows lighter. In Lightroom, this photo is a little lighter, so I will raise the shadows in Capture One and dim the highlights a little. Let's see how Travel profile works. The last profile is called Teal Orange. Let's compare the result with Lightroom. This is exactly the case I mentioned at the beginning. The image in Lightroom appears to have HDR settings! The highlights are extremely dimmed and the shadows are highlighted. However, in Capture One nothing prevents me from raising the shadows and dimming the highlights! So I can get the same result.
Although these profiles are created for JPEGs, you can apply them to RAW files in Capture One. Remember to switch the curve to Linear Response mode. Of course, the color will be different, but you will achieve a certain effect.
That's all! I hope this video was useful to you! Now you can export presets from Lightroom for JPEG files to Capture One. Don’t forget to like and subscribe to stay tuned!
