Have you ever wondered how women in the 18th century got dressed? What are all the layers of an 18th-century outfit, how do you put them on, and in what order? Lauren demonstrates getting dressed in an 18th century Robe a l'Anglaise (also known as an Italian Gown) from the 1780s, starting with the chemise, stockings, and shoes. She shows lacing the stays (corset), putting on accessories, skirt supports, and the final petticoat and gown.

Many of the garments and pieces in this video were made for or using the techniques in "The American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Dressmaking," available here: american-duchess.com/american-duchess-guide

FAQ:
* The yellow gown and petticoat are made of silk taffeta trimmed with silk-cotton voile, and are completely hand-sewn.

* The shoes are "Dunmore" in red from AmericanDuchess.com
* The stockings are over-the-knee silk clocked stockings from AmericanDuchess.com
* The shift is made of 100% linen
* The split bum was made for the book "The American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Dressmaking" which you can buy here: american-duchess.com/book/american-duchess-guide
