This should be taught to every novice thrower before they handle a caber. Proper disengagement from the caber can prevent injury to the athlete and bystanders, as well as preserve the caber. There is no room for ego. If an Athletic Director or fellow competitors are yelling for you to "ditch" or "lay it down," do so immediately and do not try to salvage an attempt.
