I don’t like waste, so I don’t want to throw away obsolete parts with previously installed heat inserts. In this video, I show you the technique I’m currently using, and invite feedback and suggestions for better ways. I don’t want to buy any specific tools, so keep that in mind. I’m looking forward to some good feedback.

Check out my 2nd channel, TT Racing: https://www.youtube.com/@TTRacingYT
I needed a custom storage box with some trick articulation, but the universe wanted to fight me every step of the way. I got there in the end, and levelled up with my design skills. This is that story.
A summary of the curse:
Plywood changed composition and would not cut cleanly
Laser cutter belt became loose and then detached
Repair of laser cutter was stupidly awkward
New problems introduced after repair which needed calibration
Laser cutter not square
Power outage once everything was actually working
3D printer decides to randomly reset for the first time, mid print
2nd choice 3D printer decides PETG will not stick no matter what
Rain on the day I wanted to paint
Broken blade trying to shorten a screw
Rain now that I’m done
While I was filming the last shot, my dog stole a new pillow and ripped it to shreds

![3D printing + CNC milling - Worth the effort?
3D printing is accessible, but has its drawbacks. CNC milling for most is harder to set up, butoffers great precision at the cost of inefficient and wasteful subtractive manufacturing. What if we 3D print an oversized model, and then mill it down to the final shape, eliminating layer lines and other imperfections? In this video I experiment with this concept on an F1 in Schools wheel.
I think everything was a win apart from the surface finish. More experimentation with spindle rpm, feed rate and cutting depth could yield better results. Also me having more patience with sanding and polishing at the end would surely help too.
Is this all just a waste of time or are there suitable applications?

A QUICK UPDATE video using non alpha firmware: https://youtu.be/bVY3S22L4EY
2nd update: Prusa have released a new version of the slicer with some counter measures for the blobbing and stringing. I will keep testing and update in a future video.
It’s been delayed for some time and the price hasn’t gotten any cheaper, but finally my 5 tool Prusa XL has arrived. Was it worth the wait? So far, the printer is quite undercooked. In this video I take you through my honest experience, including the problems myself and other owners are facing, as well as some of my intended fixes. Hopefully Prusa can release some updates to get this machine working as it should.
My apologies for my ranting in this video, but honestly I could have added more. Things like needing to turn down the crash sensitivity to stop false positives, the nozzle dragging across the bed after purging and leaving trails, the fact that you can’t adjust things like acceleration from the printer settings, the friction from the long ptfe tubes making it impossible to load tpu without pulling bits off, the PTFE tubes rubbing on the metal frame behind the tool posts, the USB flash drive being fussy with insertion angle.. The whole thing is just underwhelming.
This video is dedicated to my two dogs, Ricciardo and Sofia, who were both tragically killed by snake bite this week. Treasure your time with loved ones and pets, because you never know how long you will have with them.

![Sketch constraints in detail - 3D design for 3D printing pt10
To get the best out of 3D printing, it helps if you can design your own parts. In this tutorial series, we will learn to use a free 3D CAD program to do just that.
In this episode, I meet a frequent viewer request to cover sketch dimensions and constraints in more detail. We design a mainboard adaptor mount using a dimensioned diagram, then build a frame around it.
A future video is planned where I design a more complex part from start to finish to show all of the little problems and how to fix them.
All of these tools have a dedicated help page - Onshape sketch tools help menu: https://cad.onshape.com/help/Content/sketch-tools.htm
