How to: Dante Row (Standing 1 Arm Hammer Low Row)

Here’s the second move nicknamed the Dante Row a la @dante_trudel on a low Hammer Row machine (and this one you can actually call it that properly while the other move is technically coined a High Pull that others call a DT Row).

BACKGROUND INFO:
Hammer equipment is universal because they have very few moving parts and no silly plastic coverings which means they are built to last with minimal upkeep costs by gyms.

Seriously, all you gym owners out there - skip the cheaply made yet massive crap that’s coming out of Asia and you’ll only have to worry about floor planning for maximizing space, NOT maintenance!

Now yes, Hammer Strength doesn’t always have the best biomechanics in terms of matching our body’s natural strength profiles; but hey, train hard as hell on what you have available and it probably won’t matter.

EXECUTION INFO:
For the love of all that is holy, use your straps and take an open thumb grip, grabbing towards the bottom of the handle if possible to maximize the stretch.

I like a staggered stance to eliminate excessive cheating by rotating my torso as you see here, while bracing against the pad with my forearm (the other version I referenced is where I simply hold on to the chest pad for dear life with my opposite arm - that will be harder than this setup).

As with all chest supported movements, take a big breath in and brace and THEN initiate your pull otherwise it will be uncomfortable and hard to keep your breathing going as the set progresses.

Drive your elbow back behind you and squeeze like hell - the contraction I feel on this is insane.

Control the weight back and allow your shoulder blade to protract/stretch out at the bottom to maximize your back gains - I personally use a metronome which I recognize isn’t for everyone but that’s how my brain works.

Trust me, you progress this sucker and your back will grow grow grow!
