This net bag is a great way to eliminate those plastic produce bags! About 4 hours to make it! Will hold lots of produce because its nice and stretchy! This tutorial is shown by a leftie but is easily adapted for right-handers.
Here's the Crochet net market bag pattern:
- 3 small balls of Bernat Cotton Handicrafter yarn or 240 yds (219m)
- scissors to cut yarn
- large eyed darning needle with blunt end
- Crochet hook G7 (4.55mm)
- 6 crochet markers or bobby pins
sc – single crochet
ch – chain
Start with a magic ring. “Watch video for instructions”
Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring. Cinch up a bit but not all the way.
Round 2: 2 sc into each stitch. 12 stitches. Cinch in circle all the way until good and tight and you feel it lock in.
Round 3: 2 sc into each stitch. 24 stitches
Round 4: 1 sc into each stitch. 24 stitches
Round 5: *1 sc into first stitch. 2 sc into next stitch* repeat this pattern around. 36 stitches
Round 6: 1 sc into each stitch. 36 stitches
Round 7: *1 sc into first stitch. 2 sc into next stitch* repeat this pattern around. 54 stitches
Round 8: 1 sc into each stitch. 54 stitches
Round 9: * 1 sc into first stitch. 2 sc into next stitch* repeat this pattern around. 81 stitches
Round 10: 1 sc into each stitch.
Round 11: *1 sc into first stitch, ch 3, skip 2 and insert chain into next stitch* repeat pattern around.
Round 12: *1 sc into the opening, ch 4, insert chain into next opening* repeat pattern around.
Round 13-33: same as row 12
Round 34: *1 sc into first opening, ch 3, insert chain into next opening* repeat pattern around.
Round 35: *1 sc into first opening, ch 2 but not too tight, insert chain into next opening* repeat pattern around.
Round 36: 1 sc into next opening, ch 1 and now *1sc into stitch, 1 sc into each of the two chains from previous row* that is a total of 3 sc into each opening. Repeat pattern around. 82 stitches.

Round 37-38: 1 sc into each stitch
Handles
You have ended your last stitch on the side of the bag.
- Fold your bag in half
- Place a marker or bobby pin on both sides. “1 marker at beginning and 1 placed half way around at 41 stitches"
- From each side count in 12 stitches and place a marker on the front and back on both sides.
Round 39: 1 sc into next 12 stitches. Ch 80 (ch 50 for shorter handles). Bring chain into first marker with 1 sc. 1 sc into each stitch. Remove next next marker and continue sc to next marker. ch 80 (ch 50 for shorter handles). Bring chain into next marker. Sc into each stitch. Remove next marker and continue sc up to where first handle begins.
Round 40: sc into each chain. You want to crochet into the front and back of each chain. Continue sc into each stitch to complete the round. “Watch video for more instruction.”
Round 41-42: sc into each stitch and continue around.
Finish off with *1 slip knot into the next stitch* Repeat once more.
Tie off with knot and sew in ends.

Wash in cold water and air dry.
