In this tutorial I’m showing you how to crochet a stunning 3D blanket that looks intricate but works up beautifully once you get the rhythm. If you love projects with bold texture and eye‑catching depth, you’re in the right place. Grab your yarn, settle in, and let’s build this 3D design one sculpted square at a time.

With this pattern you will learn the slip stitch joining technique and working with multiple yarns.

MATERIALS:
1. The yarn used in tutorial is Big Twist and Red Heart (medium size 4) available on Amazon:
Color A (Red Heart Black) amzn.to/3RZJfFG
Color B (Red Heart Hunter Green) amzn.to/3GOERH4
Color C (Big Twist Kelly Green)
Color D (Big Twist Light Green) amzn.to/4kfTzp7
Color E (Big Twist Green Gecko)
Color F (Red Heart White) amzn.to/3GMItta
2. Crochet hook is size 5.5 mm.

My blanket has 96 squares: 12 rows and 8 squares on each row.
One square measures about 7 inches on each side.

đź’ˇCHECK YOUR SQUARE SHAPE:
A quick note about shaping and tension for this square: if your square starts leaning or losing its shape early on, it will usually become more noticeable as more rows are added. I recommend checking the shape after every few rows, especially once the color changes begin. If the square is not forming evenly, try slightly tightening your tension or switching to a smaller hook size for the next section. Even a very small tension adjustment can make a big difference with this 3D design. Laying the work flat frequently while crocheting also helps catch shaping issues early before continuing.
