Today, I want to talk about one simple way to speed up a hand drawn sketch. I have a series of 15,000 images taken by Nate. Nate created this series for me and said he had no idea where to begin. It's a fairly easy task, but with that many images I can understand why he was overwhelmed. I said I'd show him how to do it, but wanted to make a tutorial out of it so that you all could learn as well.
Here are the basic steps.
1) Put all the images in one folder: Doesn't matter how you do it, just get them in there.
2) Rename them so that they are organized in ascending order, based on creation date: I did this via Automator (search for it on a mac), but you can use anything you want that organizes your files.
3) Open them up as a sequence of JPG images in After Effects. You can obviously do this in many different programs, but AE works with these large images the best. Plus, it allows you to do step 4.
4) Apply Warp stabilizer if your image shakes around. We did this here with relatively good results. I suppose I could have spent more time and really locked the image. I didn't want to spend too much time on it though as I kind of like the rough moving look.
5) export the full sequence.
6) Take the video you exported and retime as needed in your editing program. Command-R in FCPX opens up the retime feature - then you can adjust as needed.

RENAME ON WINDOWS - (by a user in the comments) - Sort the files by Date or by Date taken. Then select ALL the files (Ctrl+A). After that you just simply press F2 (it's the shortcut for rename). Type whatever text you want and press enter. It will automatically rename all the files in a sequence (for example file (1).jpg, file (2).jpg, file (3).jpg and so on).
