I devoted this channel to a big part of my life, which is tabletop RPGs, mainly DnD and Pathfinder. But since I work as a motion designer for a marketing company , and dabble in illustration, I decided to round up my skills and try to produce somethign original.
I occasionally draw a parallel line between role playing games and real life situations, delving into psychology and deeper explanation of building a character within the game. My love for handcrafts is something that runs in my family. Basically all of my known family had something to do with craftsmanship, whether it was a paying job, or a hobby, so it was only natural that I get into something similar, hence the crafting and customizing part of this channel. My wish is to entertain you as much as educate you and I hope that we'll all have fun on the way.
Hello there, my crafty little buggers. Welcome back to another video. This time, I have some Photoshop goodies for you. What you see before you is The Nowhere Bow, a magic weapon that I created for my upcoming Kickstarter campaign - The Nowhere Emporium. I know that there’s a children’s book of the same name, but when we brainstormed the idea, we didn’t know about it and we liked it too much to simply abandon it, so we decided to keep it. But this is no children’s book. Far from it. It’s a dark fairy tale-like setting for DnD and Pathfinder which will bring a lot to your gaming table. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot. I’m talking about at least 200 new items of all sorts, a bunch of NPCs, a quest line, maps, tokens and much more. If you wanna join in on all the fun, make sure to visit nowhereemporium.com. There will be freebies for the subscribers of our mailing list. This is one of the setting-specific items that you’ll be able to get if you decide to join our adventuring party.
As for the process, you can see for yourself, I used a sketch that I previously made in my sketchbook to create an outline of the bow in Photoshop. I used the Liquify tool to correct the shape, used the line work to create a solid color layer and applied a clipping mask (or ten) to create the base color, the details, the lighting, the shading, etc. I also used one photo texture that I took myself at a local park, just to give it some liveliness and extra detail.
For those of you who are more experienced in illustration using Photoshop, you’ll see that I didn’t have a complete understanding of the process itself. This was the first ever item that I illustrated for the Nowhere Emporium, and that was quite some while ago. I believe it’s been a year. Up until that point, a lot of time has passed since I dabbled in digital illustration. I didn’t have a clear idea on how to use Photoshop for that specific purpose. So, this will be as much of a learning process for you, as it was for me. As the time progresses, and I upload more illustration process videos to this channel, you’ll see that I actually found a very efficient way to create these illustrations. I also became better at sketching and drawing in the meanwhile, so you’ll be able to see some more complex items in the future.
