This video demonstrates Mark's quick sponge-filter cleaning routine for tanks that have multiple independent sponge filters. He alternates which side is cleaned so biological filtration remains in the aquarium, checks weak bubble flow as a sign of clogging and shows how he inspects and rinses the sponges before reinstalling them.
Important: this washing-machine method is only for a tank with multiple filters and an appliance cycle completely free of detergent, softener or cleaning chemicals. If the tank has only one sponge filter, gently squeeze it in removed aquarium water instead. If tap water contains chlorine or chloramine, use an appropriate dechlorinator before the sponge returns to the tank.
