In this video I demonstrate how to disassemble and clean sticky or oily aperture blades on a Nikon 50mm 'Series E' manual focus lens.

The sequence of disassembly:
TOP
1. Unscrew (CCW) the front retainer ring
2. Unscrew three phillips screws from the filter ring
3. Unscrew three phillips screws from the front element group
4. Mark a line on the shoulder of the aperture insert
5. Unscrew two phillips screws on the aperture insert
6. Lift out aperture insert
7. Clean blades, and any oil or residue with alcohol
8. Let dry for a while before reassembly
9. Also check that the inside elements are clean
Things to watch out for:
- Do not touch the aperture blades with any force. They're fragile like a baby's melon.
